Frequently Asked Questions

Parents: What do we do once we arrive?

Girls arrive at 8:00 am, no later than 8:30 am. Girls will find their school under the large pavilion, sign in and pick up race packets from their coaches, meet with their team, pick up their chip with all other runners, and enjoy fun activities to get the girls in the race day spirit! If parents are picking up their own race packet that morning, please arrive at 8:00 am, when packet pick-up opens.

Is this race rain or shine?

We have a fantastic venue this year at Comanche County Park, with covered areas.  So, if it sprinkles a little, prepare to jump joyfully in the puddles and have a wonderful event.  Please stay posted here for possible weather changes. We run rain or shine! If there are extreme weather conditions on race day (hail or tornados, a lot of lightning, for instance) please stay tuned to our social media sites (Facebook) or our website (GOTR 5k page) for information.

Will there be food at the race?

We will have plenty of food and water at the finish line. Please ensure your daughter eats something light like fruit before they run. It’s best not to have something heavy, like breakfast tacos, pancakes, or eggs and bacon.

What is the plan for my daughter after the race?

We encourage all teams to wait for the last girl to cross the finish line before anyone goes home. This is a day about team work and about doing one’s individual best. We celebrate each and every girl as she crosses the finish line—in her own time. Each Girls on the Run participant receives a medal from her coach when she crosses the finish line. There will be a medal ceremony for the first three places in all age groups, overall male and female, and overall masters male and female at roughly 11 am. Your girl’s coaches have this and more information, and may have something extra planned for your team. Please be in touch with them before race day.

Do I register my daughter for the race?

Please do not register your daughter for the race. She has been registered for the race as part of her program registration fee. Also, please do not try to pick up your daughter’s packet at packet pick-up. She will pick up her own packet on race day from her coach.

Are there aid stations available?

Water will be available at the start. One water/aid stations will be available on the course, around the halfway mark. Each participant should plan to take no more than two servings of water at each Aid Station. Runners are also encouraged to bring water bottles along on the course. Additional water and snacks will be available at the finish line.

Where do I park?

We will have various lots for parking, so please follow the instructions from our parking attendants. We will direct parking into Comanche Park first; later arrivals will park in Covington Park, as our overflow lot.

Do you allow strollers and pets?

YES! We welcome furry friends and little ones at our race. If you do have a stroller, please begin the race at the back of the pack to ensure that no one will trip over you.

How do I get to Comache Park?

Take I-10E to Exit 577 (for US 87S/Roland Ave). Veer right on Roland Ave (at the Whataburger). Take a left at Rigsby Ave (at the Shell Gas Station & Family Dollar). You will see Covington Park first, then Comanche Park #2 entrance, where the gate will be closed.  Look for the Navajo Community Center on the right & our parking attendants at the entrance for Comanche Park No.3 (see maps HERE).

Volunteer Registration

This event would not be possible without the help of amazing volunteers who believe in our mission and show up to support our girls. Over 100 volunteers are needed to put on our best 5K yet! Whatever your special skills and talents, we have a role for everyone.
